Geometrical Frustration by Jean-Francois Sadoc,

Geometrical Frustration by Jean-Francois Sadoc,
This book shows how the concept of geometrical frustration can be used to elucidate the structure and properties of nonperiodic materials such as metallic glasses, quasicrystals, amorphous semiconductors and complex liquid crystals. Examples and idealized models introduce geometric frustration, illustrating how it can be used to identify ordered and defective regions in real materials. The book goes on to show how these principles can also be used to model physical properties of materials, in particular specific volume, melting, the structure factor and the glass transition. Final chapters consider geometric frustration in periodic structures with large cells and quasiperiodic order. Appendices give all necessary background on geometry, symmetry and tilings. The text considers geometrical frustration at different scales in many types of materials and structures, including metals, amorphous solids, liquid crystals, amphiphiles, cholisteric systems, polymers, phospholipid membranes, atomic clusters, and quasicrystals. This book will be of great interest to researchers in condensed matter physics, materials science and structural chemistry, as well as mathematics and structural biology.

Encompassing a review of past work and the fundamentals in solar electric science, this outstanding reference provides an invaluable resource to practitioners, consultants, researchers and students in the PV engineering industry.

Solar cell - A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell, is a semiconductor device consisting of a large-area p-n junction diode, which in the presence of sunlight is capable of generating usable electrical energy. This conversion is called the photovoltaic effect.

Sintra (Material) - Sintra® is the brand name for the closed-cell PVC foamboard produced by the company Alusuisse Composites inc. It was developed in Europe in the 1970's and is now used primarily in the manufacture of signs and displays, although its material properties have made it extremely popular among model makers and prop builders.

Semiconductor materials - Semiconductor materials are insulators at absolute zero temperature that conduct electricity in a limited way at room temperature (see also Semiconductor). The defining property of a semiconductor material is that it can be doped with impurities that alter its electronic properties in a controllable way.

Intensive and extensive properties - In physics and chemistry an intensive property of a system is a physical property of the system that does not depend on the system size or the amount of material in the system.
